Upon discharge, the foam creates a physical barrier between the fuel and oxygen, which effectively smothers the fire and breaks the fire triangle. The cooling effect of the foam also helps to prevent dangerous reignition.

The fire extinguishers have been dielectric tested. This certification makes them safe for use on electrical fires up to 1000 volts, provided a minimum distance of one meter is maintained.

Under SCDF regulations, fire extinguishers in Singapore no longer display icons for gas or electrical fires. SCDF recommends isolating the energy source (gas or electricity) before tackling the fire. Once the source is shut off, the fire typically involves Class A or B materials, which this extinguisher is highly effective against.
